Ultrasound
What is an Ultrasound?
An ultrasound scan is a test that involves taking pictures of the body using sound waves. Ultrasound can be used to look at all soft tissue structures and blood vessels. Pulses of ultrasound are sent through the skin into your body which then ‘bounce back’ from the various parts of the body, creating an image. These images can be recorded to help the doctor or clinician make a diagnosis.
Ultrasounds in Syston
Here in Syston we now have a weekly ultrasound service available for all patients. We offer most types of general ultrasounds and the service is run and managed by clinicians from the Leicester Royal Infirmary. Patients can choose to have their ultrasound test at Syston through their GP referring them to the University Hospitals of Leicester and marking the referral with ‘Syston’. If the ultrasound request is suitable for Syston the patient will receive an appointment at Syston. If for some reason the test needs to be done at a larger radiology department, the Leicester clinicians will ensure the patient has an appointment within the University Hospitals of Leicester instead. This ensures every patient receives the most appropriate professional care, at the most appropriate location without delay.
Further information on Ultrasound scans is available on the University Hospitals of Leicester website, under patient leaflets:
