Carpal Tunnel Syndrome surgery
What is Carpal Tunnel syndrome?
The carpal tunnel is a narrow space at the front of your wrist. The tendons that bend the fingers and wrist pass through this space. The main nerve to your hand is called the median nerve, this also passes through the carpal tunnel alongside the other tendons. Space in the carpal tunnel is limited therefore any swelling in the region compresses the median nerve and can cause interference with nerve impulses. This can be painful, which may become prolonged and intense, making it difficult to grip things.
Carpal Tunnel surgery is a simple operation, under local anaesthetic, which involves releasing the pressure on the median nerve.
