Contraceptive Services

All the doctors and nurses can provide contraceptive advice and prescriptions. If you are on the oral contraceptive please remember to book into see us before you run out.

The Emergency Contraceptive Pill

Emergency pills are given as a single tablet, to be taken as soon as possible after unprotected sex.

You can get the emergency pill free from:

  • any contraception clinic
  • any young person's clinic
  • any sexual health clinic,
  • NHS walk-in centres
  • most GP practices,
  • some genitourinary medicine (GUM) clinics,
  • some pharmacies, and
  • some hospital accident and emergency departments.

You can buy the emergency pill from most pharmacies if you are aged 16 or over. Prices can vary, but it should cost around £26. A number of community pharmacists can also prescribe it free of charge to those who are under 18 years of age, including teenagers who are under 16.
